Spanish Challenge Coming Soon…

News

Hey there, Spanish language lover 💛

Let’s talk about a very specific struggle…

You’re in a conversation…

Everything is going well…

And then you try to say something about the past.

👉 “Yesterday I…”

👉 “When I was younger…”

👉 “Last weekend…”

…and suddenly your brain goes: nope. absolutely not. 😅

So you either:

  • switch back to present tense
  • go through all the possible past tenses in your brain before saying anything
  • or just randomly pick one

Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing:

It’s not that you don’t know Spanish.

It’s that talking about the past is a whole different skill.

And most people?

👉 don’t get enough real practice with it

That’s exactly what we’re working on next 👀

Stay tuned…

Besitos,

Caro 😘

Spanish Fluency is overrated 😮🤯

News

You probably don’t need to be fluent in Spanish.

I know… not what you expected to read today.

But stick with me.

This might completely change how you approach learning.

Let’s talk about the word everyone loves to throw around: Fluency.

“I want to be fluent in Spanish.”

Okay… but do you though?

Because fluency is not a cute little goal.

Fluency isn’t:

👉 taking a class once a week

👉 doing Duolingo while you wait for your coffee

👉 “I’ve been practicing for a few months!”

Fluency is more like:

  • Doing your job in Spanish
  • Attending university in Spanish
  • Understanding fast, messy, real-life conversations
  • Living part of your life in Spanish

That’s not a goal.

That’s a lifestyle change.

Now let’s be honest for a second…

What do most people actually want?

  • “I want to order food without panicking.”
  • “I want to talk to my in-laws.”
  • “I want to travel and actually connect with people.”
  • “I want to stop smiling and nodding when I have no idea what’s happening.”

That’s not fluency.

That’s being able to communicate like a normal human.

And that?

That’s the good stuff.

Let’s talk levels

At PBO, we talk about levels like this:

  • B2 (Intermediate 2): You can have real conversations and handle most situations
  • B3 (Intermediate 3): You can have real conversations and handle most situations with more ease and finesse than in B2
  • C1 (Advanced): You’re comfortable, expressive, and can say what you actually mean

👉 B2 will allow you to communicate in most situations

👉 B3 will help you really express yourself

👉 C1 will make you feel like a badass

And neither one requires fluency.

Fluency = Olympic-level commitment 🏅

If B2 is like playing varsity in high school…

B3 is like playing college varsity…

C1 is like going pro…

Fluency (C2) is like training for the Olympics.

We’re talking:

  • Daily immersion
  • A serious time investment
  • Consistency over years
  • Rearranging your life around the language

Incredible if that’s your goal.

But let’s not pretend it’s what everyone needs.

Here’s where people get stuck

They set “fluency” as the goal…

And then feel like they’re failing when they’re not there yet.

Meanwhile, they can:

  • hold conversations
  • travel comfortably
  • connect with people
  • actually use Spanish in real life

That’s not failure.

That’s winning.

A better question to ask

Instead of: “How long until I’m fluent?”

Try:

👉 “What do I actually want to be able to do in Spanish?”

Because that answer?

That’s what should guide everything.

Final thoughts 💛

You don’t need perfect Spanish.

You don’t need flawless grammar.

And you definitely don’t need fluency to start living your life in Spanish.

So if fluency isn’t your goal…

Good.

You’re probably being way more honest (and more effective) than most people.

And if you’re one of the few who have reached fluency: congratulations!

You indeed ARE a rock star 🤘

Besitos,

Caro 😘

Spanish Doesn’t Have to Be All-or-Nothing.

News

One of the most common things we hear from adult Spanish learners is this:

“I just don’t have time to do it right.”

They worry they can’t keep up with homework.

They feel guilty if they only attend one class a week.

They think that if they can’t give Spanish their full attention, they shouldn’t do it at all.

But here’s a question.
Is it better to go to the gym once or twice a week…or not go at all?

Is it better to eat one serving of vegetables a day…or stop eating vegetables completely because you can’t eat them at every meal?

Of course the answer is obvious.

Progress isn’t built on perfection. It’s built on consistency.

Language learning works the exact same way.

You don’t have to take multiple classes every week.

You don’t have to complete every piece of homework.

You don’t have to do Spanish “perfectly.”

If the only thing you can do right now is show up to one class a week and speak Spanish for an hour…that still counts.

That hour still moves your brain forward.

That hour still builds confidence.

That hour still keeps Spanish alive in your brain.

Learning a language is a long-term journey. Years, not weeks.

And the people who eventually become fluent aren’t always the ones who do the most.
Often they’re simply the ones who don’t quit.

So if you’re learning Spanish (or any language), here’s some encouragement:

Do what you can.

Show up when you can.

And let “a little” be enough.

Because a little Spanish each week is infinitely better than none at all.

Besitos,
Caro
