la mini-lección: Verbos con preposición A2

In Spanish, certain verbs are “incomplete” without a specific preposition.
These are called dependent prepositions.
Just like in English you say “to depend on” (and never “to depend of”), Spanish has its own fixed pairs.

Let’s take a look at some examples:
Pensar en – to think about
Aprender a – to learn (how) to
Olvidarse de – to forget about
Preocuparse de/por – to worry about
Tratar de – to try to
Soñar con – to dream about
Asistir a – to attend
Darse cuenta de – to realize

Spanish Past Tense Practice: Join Our 31-Day “Spill the Chisme” Challenge

News

Spill the Chisme officially starts on May 1st!

If talking about the past in Spanish makes your brain freeze… this challenge is for you 😏

What is Spill the Chisme?

Spill the Chisme is a 31-day Spanish conversation challenge designed to help you feel more comfortable speaking about the past in Spanish.

For 31 days, you’ll get:

👉 1 conversation prompt per day

👉 focused on real-life past tense conversation

👉 just 5–10 minutes a day of Spanish practice

The goal?

To finally stop overthinking and start speaking naturally.

Why Is Talking About the Past in Spanish So Hard?

Most Spanish learners can talk about:

👉 what they’re doing

👉 what they like

👉 what they want

But the moment they try to talk about:

👉 what happened yesterday

👉 what they did last weekend

👉 what their childhood was like

…everything gets messy.

You hesitate.

You simplify.

Or you just stop talking.

That’s exactly the gap this Spanish challenge helps fix.

This Is Not a Grammar Bootcamp

No grammar lectures.

No worksheets.

No perfection required.

Instead?

You’ll practice using Spanish past tenses every single day through real conversation prompts that help the language actually stick.

Because let’s be honest:

If you don’t practice talking about the past on purpose… it doesn’t magically get easier.

You stay stuck in the same loop.

But when you start using it daily, something shifts:

👉 “Oh wait… I can actually say this now.”

That’s the magic.

How to Join

Spill the Chisme is included in our Patreon membership for just $19/month.

You’ll also have the option to join your level’s WhatsApp group for voice note practice and corrections.

✨ Check out the details

✨ Join us here

We start on Friday, May 1st 👀

la mini-lección: Las oraciones concesivas B3-C2

We will take a look at concessive sentences in Spanish.

Concessive sentences (also known as despite sentences) are used to express an obstacle or a difficulty that, despite being present, does not prevent the main action from happening.

With these kind of sentences, we can use either the indicative or the subjunctive.

The choice depends on whether the speaker is presenting the obstacle as a proven fact or as a hypothetical/unknown situation.

For example:

A pesar de que nieva, vamos a salir.

(Even though it’s snowing, we’re going to go out – Indicative)

A pesar de que nieve, vamos a salir.

(Even if it snows, we’re going to go out – Subjunctive)

Some common concessive connectors are: aunque, a pesar de (que), pese a (que), por más que, and por mucho que.

A very idiomatic way to express “No matter what/who/how” is by repeating the verb in the subjunctive:

For example:

Digan lo que digan… (No matter what they say…)

Venga quien venga… (No matter who comes…)

Sea como sea… (Be as it may / Whatever happens…)

Learn Spanish by Speaking (Not Just Studying)

News

Have you ever wondered why so many people study Spanish for years but still struggle to have a conversation?

Think about it this way:
Would you learn how to drive a car by reading a manual…or by actually driving?

The same is true for language learning.
You don’t learn Spanish by studying. You learn Spanish by speaking.

Why Traditional Spanish Classes Don’t Work for Conversation

Many traditional Spanish classes focus heavily on:

  • Grammar rules
  • Verb conjugations
  • Worksheets and written exercises

While these are helpful, they often delay your ability to actually speak Spanish in real life.

Students end up knowing about the language…
but not knowing how to use it.

The Best Way to Learn Spanish: Conversation-Based Learning

At Pura Buena Onda, we take a different approach.

Instead of waiting until you “know enough,”
you start speaking Spanish from day one.

In our conversational Spanish classes, students:

  • Practice real-life conversations
  • Ask and answer questions in Spanish
  • Build confidence speaking naturally
  • Learn to think in Spanish (instead of translating)
  • Make mistakes without fear

As a teacher, I see students transform, going from hesitant beginners to confident speakers who can actually communicate.

“But I’m a Beginner…how Can I Speak Spanish Already?”

This is the most common question and it’s a fair one.

The answer is immersion.

When you’re consistently hearing and speaking Spanish:

  • Your brain starts recognizing patterns
  • You pick up vocabulary in context
  • You understand meaning without translating every word

This is called comprehensible input + active output and it’s one of the fastest ways to learn a language.

Instead of memorizing, you’re absorbing and using the language in real time.

Learn Spanish with Native Speakers (and Why It Matters)

One of the biggest advantages of conversational classes is learning from native Spanish speakers.

Native instructors help you:

  • Hear authentic pronunciation
  • Learn natural expressions and slang
  • Understand cultural nuances
  • Avoid sounding robotic or “textbook”

Because here’s the truth:
There is such a thing as being “too correct.”

You’ve probably heard someone speak a second language perfectly…
but it still sounds unnatural.

That’s what happens when you learn only from books.
Conversation with native speakers teaches you how Spanish is actually spoken.

Build Confidence and Start Speaking Spanish Naturally

The biggest barrier for most learners isn’t grammar, it’s fear of making mistakes.

Conversational Spanish classes help you:

  • Practice in a supportive environment
  • Get comfortable making mistakes
  • Build real speaking confidence

And over time?

Speaking Spanish starts to feel natural.

Not forced.

Not translated.

Not rehearsed.

Make Learning Spanish Fun, Social, and Real

Language learning shouldn’t feel like homework.

When you learn Spanish through conversation:

  • You connect with real people
  • You share ideas and stories
  • You experience the culture behind the language

It becomes something you look forward to, not something you avoid.

Because at the end of the day…

The goal isn’t to study Spanish.
The goal is to speak it.

31-Day Spanish Challenge: Learn How to Talk About the Past (Without Boring Grammar Drills)

News

Hola, hola 👋

We’re kicking off a brand new 31-day Spanish challenge in May, and I’m especially excited about this one…

Because we’re focusing on something that trips up almost every Spanish learner:

👉 Talking about the past in Spanish

You know the moment…

You’re in a conversation, everything is flowing…
…and then you try to say:

“Yesterday I…”
“When I was younger…”
“Last weekend…”

…and your brain just freezes 😅

That’s exactly what this challenge is here to fix.

What This Spanish Challenge Is (and What It’s Not)

Let’s be clear about something first:

This is NOT a grammar bootcamp.

❌ No worksheets
❌ No lectures
❌ No memorizing endless conjugation charts

Instead?

👉 Daily conversation practice in Spanish

Every day for 31 days, you’ll get one prompt designed to help you practice speaking about the past in Spanish.

And not boring prompts either…

We’re talking real-life, engaging topics like:

  • your childhood memories
  • a trip that went completely wrong 😬
  • an embarrassing moment
  • a time everything changed

How It Works

Your job is simple:

👉 Respond in Spanish

  • Write your response in Patreon
  • OR send a voice note in WhatsApp

That’s it.

No perfection required.
No pressure.

Just consistent, real-life Spanish speaking practice.

Why This Works

Here’s the truth most people don’t realize:

You don’t struggle with past tense because you “don’t know enough grammar.”

You struggle because you haven’t practiced actually using it in conversation.

That’s the missing piece.

This challenge helps you:

  • build confidence speaking Spanish
  • get comfortable telling real stories
  • stop freezing when conversations move to the past

We’ll be sharing more details soon…

But for now:

👀 get ready to finally talk about the past en español

Besitos,
Caro 😘
