Work those ears!

Today we’re on to the 6th of 10 tips for new language learners!

What do you usually do when you hear a new word in Spanish?
Do you often ask how it’s spelled before you repeat it? Many students do, but it’s not the best way to learn a word.

When you ask how a word is spelled, you are asking what it looks like, you’re not learning how it actually sounds. When you see a word written down, you’re going to pronounce it the way those letters sound to you, not the way they’re actually pronounced.

This is why when learning a foreign language it’s incredibly important to learn to listen with your ears, not with your eyes. Not only will it help you improve your pronunciation, but also your comprehension.

Tip: If you’re having a difficult time with the pronunciation, close your eyes and listen. Work those ears!
